K20 Scholars

SCHOLARSHIPS to Pursue Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics fields (including K-12 teaching).

GOAL: To address the critical shortage of scientists and engineers by supporting kindergarten through graduate (K20) students of all genders and ethnic backgrounds in pursuing undergraduate and advanced degrees leading to technical and scientific careers.

PURPOSE: K20 Center seeks to develop a pipeline extending from K-12 to higher education and into industry and/or teaching designed to motivate and support students as they pursue science, technology, engineering, and mathematics-related degrees (including teaching), graduate, and enter the work force.

K20 Energy Scholars

Created by the OU’s K20 Center and sponsored by industry leaders; the K20 Scholars Program encourages and supports high school students in pursuing energy-related degrees and careers. In addition to research and industry opportunities, the program offers:

  • $1,000 per year for four years applied toward tuition, fees or housing
  • $1,500 for a laptop
  • $1,250 to design, implement and assess a service learning project in your community

K20 Energy Scholars are expected to:

  • Attend K20 Scholars’ meetings
  • Comply with K20 guidelines and major selections
  • Participate in energy and alternative energy related research with industry or academic partners
  • Participate in K20 Energy Scholar projects (minimum four hours per month) which includes:
    • real/virtual field trips to OU and industry labs
    • Programs that share energy-related projects with K-12 schools across Oklahoma
    • Organize and present service learning project on energy-related issues in a school and community public forum; and attend a minimum of two service learning project public forums
