K20 Center’s Core Beliefs about Research
We believe that research targeting K-12 schools should
- Meet the needs of Oklahoma students and K20 network schools;
- Place an emphasis on being educators 1st and researchers 2nd;
- Address the IDEALS & 10 Practices of High Achieving Schools framework (O’Hair, McLaughlin, & Reitzug, 2000);
- Promote a clear, shared purpose for all students’ learning;
- Focus on being learner-centered and involve authentic, interactive experiences;
- Facilitate shared leadership and decision-making;
- Engage in collaborative activities to achieve the shared purpose;
- Take collective responsibility for student learning;
- Continually study, reflect and analyze best practices using inquiry and discourse;
- Seek fair and just practices to address equity within the school; and
- Serve the needs of the community as well as the school.
