K20 Center’s Core Beliefs about Research

We believe that research targeting K-12 schools should

  • Meet the needs of Oklahoma students and K20 network schools;
  • Place an emphasis on being educators 1st and researchers 2nd;
  • Address the IDEALS & 10 Practices of High Achieving Schools framework (O’Hair, McLaughlin, & Reitzug, 2000);
  • Promote a clear, shared purpose for all students’ learning;
  • Focus on being learner-centered and involve authentic, interactive experiences;
  • Facilitate shared leadership and decision-making;
  • Engage in collaborative activities to achieve the shared purpose;
  • Take collective responsibility for student learning;
  • Continually study, reflect and analyze best practices using inquiry and discourse;
  • Seek fair and just practices to address equity within the school; and
  • Serve the needs of the community as well as the school.
