Star Schools Project
Overview
As a U.S. Department of Education’s Star Schools Grant recipient, the K20 Center for Educational and Community Renewal is working to
-
incorporate current digital game-based learning research to develop an interactive game environment in order to allow students to experience a wide array of real-world challenges that require a combination of team collaboration and the constant use of a series of process and content standards.
-
introduce teachers to a form of professional development, Lesson Study, that promotes a
cross-curricular team to collaboratively plan, teach, observe and reflect on student engagement and interaction during the research lesson.
Through the use of these two strategies, the K20 Center hopes to engage approximately 2,500 of Oklahoma’s 8th- and 9th-graders in learning gateway mathematics, reading, social studies, and science skills while rigorously testing the power of both innovations ability to improve student learning.
