Ardmore Science and Technology Project (ASTP)
Ardmore City Schools partners with the K20 Center to provide professional development for science teachers in the use of process-based curriculum, lesson development, technology, and effective teaching strategies.
As stated in the proposal (2006), the implementation of the project focuses on five goals:
Goal 1: Deepening content knowledge of K-12 science teachers through inquiry-based science experiences.
Goal 2: Connecting teachers’ content knowledge with inquiry experiences utilizing critical thinking for conceptual understanding in K-12 science classroom.
Goal 3: Integrating technology into the lesson and accessing online resources.
Goal 4: Transferring and sustaining teachers’ content, inquiry experiences and teaching for conceptual understanding into science classrooms through lesson study.
Goal 5: Creating supportive contexts that foster teacher and student learning and inquiry through leadership development and the development of professional learning communities.
Opportunities for Involvement:
The Ardmore Science and Technology Project is a district initiative funded by Ardmore City Schools through a grant from the Southern Oklahoma Medical Foundation. The K20 Center provides professional development and support for elementary teachers in science as inquiry, effective teaching practices, use of technology, and lesson study.
